Progress?

27 Years ago I was a newlywed with my beautiful wife Lupita. We made a living by selling on the flea market, fairs, and festivals watches, knives and jewelry. My wife passed 8 yrs ago, much too young from a lifelong ailment. Today as I was going thru her old jewelry, I came upon the first watch I gave her from our stock. We were selling these for 25.00 back then, and had matching sets (One of our first products). Never dreaming it still functioned, I got out my old watch repair kit, and put in a new battery. It works perfectly!. Mind you she wore this almost daily for 10 yrs as we evolved, and went to work for others as “flea markets” died for the most part. Replaced by Wally world and Amazon now, it occured to me what has been lost. With experience and learning I strived to sell the best value watches I could find, (Seiko,Citizen, Orient and quality quartz watches) I could provide a quality product at 25.00 to 30 dollars that still looks and functions 27 years later. Now you will pay 60.00 to 70.00 dollars for a claimed quality watch, and good luck on it still enduring 27 yrs of use. Why?, We have settled for lower prices and poorer quality, companies treat employees as disposible commodities (as well as thier customers), and it comes thru in products that continue to rise in price and fall in quality and endurance. Call that progress? I think the world should reverse course! Think about that as I do, the planet, as well as our everyday life would improve if we learned that throw away items are wasteful both to our daily lives, and our bank accounts.
